Farbio GTS

September 20th, 2007 by Car & Garage Staff

Farbio GTS

British automaker Farbio announced that it has started production of its GTS sports car. Underpinned by a space framed chassis and an all carbon fiber body, the GTS weighs between 2300 and 2345 pounds and is powered by a 3.0L V6. The GTS costs between £60,000 and £75,000.

The Farbio GTS comes in naturally aspirated and supercharged form. The NA GTS produces 262 horsepower and can accelerate from 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. The supercharger adds 122 horsepower, yet only 45 lbs, to the base GTS — totaling 384 — and improves 0-60 acceleration to just 3.9 seconds.

The GTS’ interior features leather and Alcantara, a navigation system and Sparco seats that provide enough room for a 6′6″ driver.

Pebble Beach: Christies Auction

August 16th, 2007 by Car & Garage Staff

PRESS RELEASE:

Christie’s at The Monterey Jet Center 16th August 2007

Many people would be surprised that just 430 Khamsins were made by the great Italian manufacturer, and of those only 155 were delivered to the USA. The example in the sale is one of the rarest of these – a 5-speed Series 2 (with louvres on the nose) that has had the less aesthetically pleasing US-spec sidelights changed to European versions. Finished in Oro Kelso with Senape (mustard) leather it looks a glamorous machine, and good value too.

Of that era (and colour palette) there also a Sepia Brown 1973 Porsche 911T Targa for $55,000 - $65,000, and a more traditionally painted 1974 Jaguar E-Type V12 Series III Roadster (BRG) for $50,000 - $70,000.

Vying for top spot at the sale with the McQueen Ferrari will, no doubt, be the 1930 Duesenberg J Convertible Berline, $700,000 - $850,000, and the gorgeous 1938 Bugatti Type 57 Three Position Drophead Coupe at $600,000 - $800,000.

At $400,000 - $500,000, the two-tone 1958 Bentley S1 Continental Park Ward Continental Drophead Coupe is not cheap, but a thorough examination of the catalogue reveals a superb ex-UK RHD car that has been thoroughly restored (and converted to LHD) by marque expert Richard Gorman of Vantage Motorworks.

A sizeable proportion of the Sale is from two collections, the first being property From a Private European Collection, all offered at No Reserve and including several Chevrolet Corvettes and other Americana as well as a 1954 Jaguar XK140 Roadster at $60,000 - $120,000. The other group of three cars are Property from the Collection of Max Weinberg, the long-time drummer from Bruce Springsteen’s band. Also Without Reserve, these entries are hot-rods and modified cars, all no doubt “Born to Run”.

Sprinkled through the catalogue are staple classics such as the 1967 Austin Healey 3000 MK III Phase 2, $60,000 - $80,000, a 1966 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 Roadster for $110,000 - $130,000, and an archetypal ‘Pebble Auction’ car, the 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 Fastback for $120,000 - $160,000.

And so to the much-heralded Steve McQueen Ferrari, resplendent in its original specification Marrone Metallizzato with Beige leather interior. McQueen took delivery of the car in mid-1963 and for years after that the pair were inseparable, until late-1967 when the arrival of his Ferrari 275 GTS NART Spyder (like the car he drove in ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’) clearly meant something in the capacious McQueen garage had to go.

The subject of a nut-and-bolt restoration by the vendor, Mike Regalia, and the winner of many concours awards in his hands, the McQueen Ferrari should comfortably exceed the $1m mark (its estimate is $800,000 - $1,200,000) and who knows where the final bidding will end. You’ll have to be there on the day.

Prior to the Motor Cars, Christie’s will sell 32 lots of automobilia including several large-scale models such as the 1/8th scale, fully working Mercedes-Benz SSKL by Hubert Haderthauer estimated at $26,000 - $30,000.

The sale will be held at:

The Monterey Jet Center
Monterey Peninsular Airport Sale:
Thursday 16th August 2007 6.30 pm Lots 1 - 92.
Viewing:
Monday 13 / Tuesday 14 August 10.00 am - 5.00 pm.
Wednesday 15 August 10.00 am - 4.00 pm.
Thursday 16th August 09.00 am - 3.00 pm

Admission by catalogue only - admits two to auction.

600 HP Bentley

August 2nd, 2007 by Car & Garage Staff

Bentley-speed

The new Continental GT Speed will generate the most power to ever come from the Crewe, UK based company Bentley Motors.  The car adds 50 hp from the previous Continental GT while getting a graceful update to its lines.  The previous GT claimed a top speed of 198mph, with the extra power that number climbs to 203mph according to Bentley.  The car will also reach 0-60 in 4.3 seconds.  Not a bad way to transport your Grey Poupon!

Imports Outsell Detroit

August 1st, 2007 by Car & Garage Staff

ford-dealer
It comes as no surprise to most that the “Big Three,” GM, Ford, and Chrysler have now been outsold for the first time ever in the U.S. by import automakers. U.S. automakers had 48.1 percent of the market share after this past quarter losing majority for the first time. When you keep building 8mpg SUVs, which they have to give away at below employee discounts, provide terrible customer service with an antiquated dealer network and combined it with the arrogance that constantly comes from Detroit this is what happens. Bentley Sales Up

July 29th, 2007 by Car & Garage Staff

Sales for Bentley are up 19%.  How does that number translate into new owners?  How does 5,600 sound.  Things are looking up for the luxury British car.  The bump in sales is largely due to the new GTC and Brooklands model.

VW Golf GTI W12 650 Concept

May 19th, 2007 by Car & Garage Staff

650vw
The 650 in the name says it all, 650 horsepower.  No we are not kidding, 650 hp in a car that is about as light as a Miata is sure to give you whiplash and it would be well worth it.  So what does 650 hp in a car like this get you?  Try a top speed of over 200mph, 530 lbs of torque and a blister 0-60 in 3.7 seconds.   The only problem, it is just a concept car so don’t get your hopes up and run to the dealer for an order.

Much of the body is also different from the stock GTI keeping only the doors hood and lights, the rest is all new.  This is a great example of German engineering going beyond the ordinary.

Alfa Romeo Returning to U.S.

May 9th, 2007 by Car & Garage Staff

alfa8c

It is no secret that Fiat has been realigning its brands in hopes of having stronger sales in the U.S. From the looks of it for the sports car enthusiast it could be a welcoming return. Of course one major problem will be a proper dealer network for sales, service and support. Read the rest of this entry »

Richards Plans For Aston Martin

March 29th, 2007 by Car & Garage Staff

In an interview today with AutoCar, Aston Martin’s new Chairman, David Richards, laid out the plans for Aston Martin’s future.  Things are already looking up just weeks after the announcement that Prodrive was the winning bidder for Aston Martin paying £480 million for the brand.

The good news is that David Richards has been an Aston Martin owner himself and currently heads up their racing division so Aston Martin and all the quirks are not new to him.

Several things were made clear in the interview with Richards:

  • Aston Martin will begin building its own process relying less on Ford
  • The Rapide 4 door concept car is likely to make it to the market in 2009
  • Production numbers can go as high as 9,000
  • Ulrich Bez is remaining as the CEO

Overall we think this change is for the better and look forward to some exciting new Aston Martins to roll out to Geneva and the public in a few years.  To discuss more on this topic visit Aston Martin Life.

Aston Martin Still Up For Grabs & Headed to F-1?

February 23rd, 2007 by Car & Garage Staff

Aston martin badge

Early rumors of LVMH, the luxury conglomerate with brands such as Louis Vuitton and Tag Heuer, have finally been laid to rest as there are three remaining bidders for the brand.  The latest update from Market Watch in London is that Prodrive, which heads up Aston Martin’s racing team, is also bidding 450 million GBP (880 USD).  Of course we would much rather see this be the buyer.  Did we mention that Prodrive is starting a Formula One team?  Could we be seeing the birth of a Aston Martin  F-1 team? maserati granturismo

There has been much speculation about the next generation Maserati Coupe.  Just today photos were leaked in The Netherlands.  The new Maserati Coupe, designed by Pininfarina, really emphasis comfort in a 2+2 setup.  Design cues from the Maserati Quattroporte are evident as seen in the front and side grills with a more aggressive edgy look and hard-lined headlights.  The car is expected to have a 4.2 liter V8 outputting around 400 bhp with a 4.7 liter version to follow.  Pininfarina is also rumored to be working on a Spyder that would retain the 2+2 seats.

Scion tC Updates for 2008

February 12th, 2007 by Car & Garage Staff

Scion tC

With the 2008 Chicago Auto Show underway Toyota releases a number of updates to the best-selling Scion, the tC. However, the majority of the updates are “fluff” from styling to tweaking the interior. What we would really like to see is an increase in power but that did not happen this time around.

Ford, Green?

February 6th, 2007 by Car & Garage Staff

2008 Ford Escape

While Ford does have some green cars they can hardly be considered a green company. In a press release from Ford today the company boast about the 2008 Escape making the GreenerCars.com list of “Green Book Online for Model Year 2007.” Well of course the car would make a list of green cars because it is. However, do not let that fool you as 2 of the 10 Meanest Vehicles for the Environment in 2007 according to the same group are Ford’s F-250 and the Lincoln Navigator. Read the rest of this entry »
